(Davenport, IA) – Senior Star Living, a Tulsa-based operator of Independent and Assisted Living facilities in ten states opened its first project in Iowa this week.
Senior Star at Elmore Place is the premier senior living facility in the Quad Cities and over three hundred people from Davenport and the surrounding area turned out for the two days of activities.
Ribbon Cutting Includes Local Dignitaries
Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba, numerous City Council members and a variety of local business people attended the VIP event held on the Senior Star campus. ”The reception from the local business community was very gratifying,” said Mike Bawden, partner at B&LPR, the public relations firm charged with the responsibility of helping Senior Star open in Davenport.
The welcome to Senior Star made an impact on the company’s ownership, as well. Co-CEO, Robert Thomas, remarked on the reception given to the senior living operator: “Everyone in Davenport has been just great,” he said. ”We already feel like a part of the community.”
A Two-Day Open House
The two-day grand opening event was orchestrated by Senior Star’s Tulsa-based marketing director and Quad City-based B&LPR. The PR boutique helped with all aspects of the event from key messaging to lining up entertainment and finding a chocolate fountain.
“It’s kind of an inside joke in our industry that sometimes PR means ‘party resources’ instead of ‘public relations’,” said Liz Lareau, partner at B&LPR. ”But events are important touchpoints for a brand with the community at-large, so we take them seriously.”
The open house was deemed a success with over 300 people attending and touring the new senior living facility – Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care units.
The facility now begins the lengthy process of leasing units to new residents and reaching optimal occupancy. That effort is expected to take up to three years.
