Healthcare
Mississippi Valley Health News
For two years (2008 and 2009), B&LPR produced a quarterly magazine for the Mississippi Valley Health Network – a group of doctors and other care givers who provide an objective, patient-focused alternative to area hospitals.
The magazine told the stories of these doctors and their patients and advocated preventive health practices and healthy lifestyles as much as surgical procedures and advancements in medicine. We’ve provided links to archived issues so you can read it online.

The Mississippi Valley Health News’ life as a printed product came to an end after the Winter 2010 edition when the decision was made to move to a less expensive, online format. The Mississippi Valley Health News Online website has generated tens of thousands of visits in the past twelve months and now has over 6,000 subscribers to its free e-newsletter. The site recently went through a design upgrade for 2011 (see related story).
Mississippi Valley Health Network Web Site
Serving a dual role as a companion piece to the magazine and serving as a patient education resource; the Mississippi Valley Health Network web site contains dozens of feature stories about the partners in the network and a searchable director of providers.
The site acts as a 24/7 resource for patients who are interested in finding out more about Healthcare, the way it should be(TM) – and when combined with the MVHN Patient Advocate Program B&LPR helped implement in 2011, the site serves as a constant source for patient and practice development.
Joint Marketing Programs
In the Fall of 2010, B&LPR helped coordinate an integrated advertising and PR campaign around the new procedure to cure Barrett’s Esophagus available at the Mississippi Valley Surgery Center. Doctors from Eastern Iowa Gastroenterology and the Gastroenterology Clinic of the Quad Cities worked with MVSC to make the announcement through the press.
Television coverage and newspaper articles generated significant consumer interest while ads promoting the new Barrett’s procedure ran in area papers and generated an immediate response.
B&LPR assisted the Mississippi Valley Surgery Center in the development and placement of joint marketing programs with allied medical practices. One such campaign, promoting the web site: www.becoloncancerfree.com, helped raise the community’s awareness of colon cancer and the importance of getting screened for early detection. You can view the print and online creative as a part of this online portfolio.
A second joint campaign was developed with Orthopaedic Specialists, PC. OS’s board-certified surgeons often see some of the toughest cases in the community, and their success stories are nothing short of amazing. In conjunction with our creative partner, Punch Creative Group, B&LPR recommended that OS and the surgery center feature these success stories and help people realize they don’t have to keep living in pain. Painfreeqc.com was launched in mid-May of 2009 and allowed people to take some rudimentary tests in the privacy of their own home to help them determine if it was time to see one of the orthopedic surgeons at OS.
